What I Missed About UL

I’m in my fifth week back in Limerick, and UL after being away for one whole year. That’s crazy- where did the time go? I feel like I never left, but I also feel like I need to relearn how to use the main building, oops. Then again, did I ever actually learn how to navigate around it, in the first place? If anyone knows the UL Main Building, you know what I mean!

In an aim not to be biased, I have always loved and raved about UL and over the last few weeks back, I can still see why I chose this University almost 3 years ago (okay, I’m gonna stop talking about time gone by from here on).

My Friends

Alike, my previous post talking about a handful of things I’ll miss in Prague, of course, top of my list of things I missed about UL is definitely my friends here, also! Now, more than ever I have found my circle of friends, and there isn’t anything I missed more than a night out at Costies, or merely going for coffee between classes!

The Library Ladies

I love the library. I am a bit nerdy when it comes to that type of thing. The ladies that work in the library café are the nicest ladies you will ever meet. They are literally like a bunch of Irish mammies, and I live for it!

I adore going into the library café, whether it’s for a coffee to take into the library with me, and get a little boost (from the coffee and the ladies!) before studying, or to sit and relax, and enjoy the atmosphere the ladies create.

My theory is that they know if you are in the library you are going to be studying or working, and so they try to brighten up your day and give you a little push of motivation.

UL Sport & UL Boxing Club

I have yet to rejoin the gym- all in due course, but when it comes, I know I’m gonna be ready for it.

Even just training with the boxing club in the Arena is something I missed a lot in Prague. I didn’t really go for any clubs/ societies – despite raving about joining loads before I went. I don’t regret not joining any either, as such, but I still missed my the boxing club.

The fitness wasn’t there last week, but even in a week I’ve managed to get a bit fitter, and I’m so excited for all the plans the club has this semester with our Intervarsities. I’m also so excited because I’ve been voted in as Assistant Chair, with the hopes of becoming Chairperson next semester, woo!

An Focal

I am so out of practice in terms of writing articles, and I am itching to get back into writing articles regularly for An Focal. I’ve contributed articles for An Focal since 1st year, and so I’m really excited to be a part of the newspaper again.

I think I said previously, but I am aiming to increase my contribution to An Focal this year, with at least 2 articles a month, as well as 1 for Campus.ie. The first edition of An Focal is released this week, so I’m super excited!

The Campus

The UL Campus has always been so pretty, in my eyes. It’s the perfect place to go for a little stroll, whether you are gonna go to the lil’ beach or across the Living Bridge – maybe both. I’m excited to get back into exercising and using the routes on campus for some jogs!

It’s been raining so much the last week or so, but I am super excited for it to dry up so I can embrace the beauty of UL again!

The Stables

It might be just stopping through on the way to class for a coffee, or maybe one drink after classes, but the versatility of the Stables is something I’ve missed so much. Unfortunately, my University in Prague had a few coffee machines, but the coffee was only okay.

I have a few 9ams this semester, and so it’s great to be able to avail of the €1 coffee on my way to class those mornings, and the coffee is actually nice!

I’ve also spent a few nights of late at the Stables this semester- making up for lost time, it’s the perfect place to go for a decent student night out, without being out until all hours of the night; I need my sleep at the end of the day!

It’s so lovely to be back in UL, but one thing that is for sure is that it definitely took me a little time to adjust back into the way lectures & tutorials are run- compared to that in Prague.

I’m getting there, though, and finally getting myself more and more organized by the day!

  1. So glad to hear you’re feeling at home.. Well.. At home! Haha. It’s always nice to return after being away for a while. Experience things through different goggles
